A regulator that doesn't feel like one, with two distinctive websites on a government deadline
CLIENT & Engagement
The client is a government media authority, newly formed by consolidating several existing media bodies. They needed two websites designed and live within the quarter. Each reflecting the full mandate and brand. Together was the product design partner of choice, and we brought our strategy skills to the table to create something long-lasting.
OUTCOME
Live landing page within 4 weeks. Two distinct websites launched within 6 months of kick-off in time for official announcement. Created reputable digital presence reflecting the entities while preserving Dubai government identity. Significant uplift in engagement beyond social media accounts.
CONTEXT
The launch date was the official announcement date that would not be changed.
One website required government design system compliance but catered to a creative audience that judges on visual craft.
Each site needed a distinct identity but built from the same system.
The purview and strategy were in a fluid state, being formed as we worked on the websites so key messaging and pillars were not full defined.
PROCESS
Licensing services had to route through the government's unified channel. We made the team aware and joined the discussions with the regulator. We also flagged the need to comply with government design system standards prior to starting which saved months of rework.
Discovery was paired with work-in-progress reveals every week, so requirements refinement and approvals happened live instead of a slow offline queue.
Custom components built on government design system foundations, existing ones re-skinned to the brand, prototyped with near-real content so the client could approve the real thing.
Content-first websites did not have content strategy in place. Prototypes with near-real content so the client could approve the real thing. Content teams followed to build in the pieces in tandem.
IMPACT
Both sites designed, approved and launched to the compressed timeline set by the authority's public announcement.
A client who initially questioned the need for discovery and strategy ended with swift approvals on all deliverables that followed.
The component library was built as a reusable design system that the authority can build every future digital property on.
The live sites are proof that government digital can be both compliant and distinctive. With an editorial feel, an audience-led narrative, and an ecosystem showcase built on government structure underneath.
The client faced a difficult trade-off between compliance with the mandatory design system, yet appeal to a creative audience. We applied their brand direction to the design system, and built custom components using its foundations. The result is fully compliant websites that still push the creative boundary.
The client task force was senior and fast-moving, working toward a tough deadline and expecting immediate results. We ran weekly sessions with work-in-progress reveals. When design decisions arrived, they were already fully involved and up to speed on the rationale so approvals were instant.
The authority was newly formed and unfamiliar with the mandatory digital requirements it had to function within. Drawing on our previous government work, we flagged early the regulatory requirements they would have to align with. This saved the client from significant wasted spend, timeline delays and potential regulatory non-compliance.
Concept prototypes, AI-assisted UX/UI design and delivery-ready requirements that help teams build faster, with less rework.
